Other people have feelings and thoughts just like you do.

 

The way we act towards other people has an impact on their feelings and thoughts.

 

Empathy is thinking about how another person might feel.

 

When we show empathy, we consider what they might think or feel about their situation.

We think about what support they might need.

I'd like to share a story about a time I showed empathy to my mate to help them through an upsetting situation.

My mate and I were playing with their new ball.

We were having an awesome time kicking goals,

until something frustrating happened.

When my mate kicked the ball, it hit a branch and tore the ball.

We couldn’t play with it anymore!

It's cool how you changed your attitude so that you could be there for your mate.

If we aren’t sure how someone feels, we can ask them how they feel, and we can ask how we can support them.

People can choose whether they want to spend time with us because of how we make them feel.

If we choose to speak badly to people, they won’t want to talk or play with us.

They might not share or help us out.

It is important that we all show respect to others, because we all have feelings that can be influenced by others.
